PDO Aftercare

POST TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Keep the treated area clean: Gently cleanse the treated area with a mild, non-irritating cleanser or as recommended by your healthcare provider. Avoid harsh scrubbing or rubbing the area.

  • Apply cold compresses: To minimize swelling and discomfort, you can apply cold compresses or ice packs to the treated area for short periods of time. Be sure to wrap the compress or ice pack in a clean cloth to protect your skin.

  • Avoid excessive facial movements: Try to avoid making exaggerated facial movements, such as excessive smiling, frowning, or chewing, for a few days after the procedure.

  • Take pain medication if necessary: If you experience any discomfort or pain, you can take over-the-counter pain medication, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, as directed by your healthcare provider. Avoid aspirin for pain relief unless otherwise prescribed, as it may increase the risk of bruising.

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure: Protect the treated area from direct sunlight and avoid prolonged sun exposure. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher if you need to go outdoors. Wearing a wide-brimmed hat and using sun-protective clothing is also recommended.

  • Avoid strenuous activities: Refrain from engaging in strenuous exercise or activities that may increase blood flow to the face for at least a week. This can help minimize swelling and potential complications.

  • Sleep on your back: Try to sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated for a few nights after the procedure. This can help reduce swelling and pressure on the treated area.

  • Follow-up appointments: It is important to attend any scheduled follow-up appointments with your healthcare provider. She/he will assess your progress, address any concerns, and provide additional guidance on aftercare.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Swelling: It is common to experience swelling around the treated area for a few days after the procedure. This swelling should gradually subside over time.

  • Bruising: Some bruising may occur at the sites. This is a normal response and should fade within a week or two.

  • Tenderness: The treated area may feel tender or sensitive to touch. This is typically temporary and should resolve within a few days.

  • Tightness: You may feel a sensation of tightness or pulling in the treated area. This is a normal response to the threads and should improve as the tissues adjust.

  • Mild discomfort: It is normal to experience mild discomfort or aching in the treated area. This can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication as directed.

  • Redness: The skin around the injection sites may appear slightly red or irritated. This is a common and temporary side effect that should resolve on its own.

  • It's important to note that these symptoms are generally mild and self-limiting. However, if you experience severe or persistent symptoms after receiving PDO threads, it is advisable to contact your healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance.
